Bringing the Joy of Reading to Hale County

At Moundville Medical Associates and the Hale County Hospital Clinic, we’re doing something special to help children grow strong and smart—not just in body, but in mind too!

We’re excited to launch a pilot program with Reach Out and Read, a nationwide initiative that brings books right into the doctor’s office. During regular check-ups, children ages 6 months to 5 years may receive a free, age-appropriate book to take home and enjoy.

Our healthcare providers also talk with parents about how reading together every day helps children learn, imagine, and build important skills for school and life.

By sharing the joy of reading, we’re turning everyday visits into opportunities that help children learn, grow, and dream big.

Why Early Childhood Reading Matters

The early years of a child’s life are a time when their brain is growing fast. Reading together helps children learn new words, understand feelings, and build strong connections with the people who care for them.

When families read with their children, it helps get them ready for school and builds a love of learning that can last a lifetime. Programs like Reach Out and Read have shown that children develop stronger language skills and feel more prepared when they start kindergarten.

Reading together isn’t just about learning—it’s also about spending time together. Sharing stories helps children feel safe, loved, and curious about the world around them.

Reach Out and Read is special because it meets families where they already are—at their child’s check-ups. Doctors and healthcare providers see young children often, which makes it a great time to talk about the importance of reading.

By giving books during visits, we show that reading is not just for school—it’s an important part of growing up healthy and strong. These small moments shared between parents and children can help build confidence, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning.

A Growing Vision for Hale County

Moundville Medical Associates and Hale County Hospital Clinic are proud to bring this program to our community through this pilot initiative. We hope to continue growing the program so even more children and families across Hale County can benefit from early childhood literacy support.

In communities where books may not always be easy to find, programs like Reach Out and Read can make a meaningful difference by helping children build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning from an early age.

Investing in Our Future

If you are interested in having your child participate, ask your healthcare provider during your next visit to learn more about the program and availability.

Reading early in life builds the foundation for learning, communication, and opportunity. By putting books into children’s hands and supporting families, we are helping shape a brighter future for Hale County—one story at a time.
